(funny, you'd think the Saskatchewan dealers would know to only sell black and white cameras...probably the camera police will show up now to confiscate your unauthorized color-taking camera.)

LOLOLOLOLOLOL Ryan I just read your last comment. ;)

Now Saskatchewan does like to brag about it's sunsets (that's why the farmers find the mountains they've retired to get in the way of the view ;).

Ryan Calhoun, on October 24, 2007, said:

I know the feeling. Around here you can't see the forest for the trees...and you can't see anything else either!

Lilypon, on October 24, 2007, said:

LOL I guess God took some things away but he always leaves something wonderful in their place. :)

Is the Saskatchewan sitcom Corner Gas showing down there yet? (it's been picked up by a number of American channels). They say the actors from down East (where lots of trees are ;) will put out lawn chairs just to watch the sun go down here.

There are a couple of prairie fires burning right now and I think that added even more to the above sunset.

Ryan Calhoun, on October 24, 2007, said:

I've never heard of it. A TV show? I've been wondering about your Corner Gas tag with no photos. I agree, I think every place on earth has something wonderful to offer (some places just take more looking).

Lilypon, on October 24, 2007, said:

I had them tagged. :( They must have disappeared when Panoramio had all the tagging problems.

(some places just take more looking) LOL Yep I do agree! ;)

Beautiful shot Pam. I used to wear a t-shirt like that in the 60's! ;)

It must have been really good to watch the colours change as the sun went down.

Lilypon, on October 25, 2007, said:

LOL Eve :D I did the same with my gap road photos. ;) I do believe I've have another 30 or 40 pictures from last evening but after all the horsie uploads :) I thought I'd better limit myself.

((Alex)) and ((Eve)) thank you for such a wonderful compliment! :D

Mosip, Rom@ance, and Billy I'm so glad you stopped by to see how Mother Nature's paintbrush outdid itself last night (and I'm so grateful I was there to capture it).

Greetings from Pam (who now lives down in the valley and often misses the sunsets she grew up seeing at the top of the hill).

Thank you for visiting and your comment Alfred! :D The above sunset kept us mesmerized (and my camera clicking constantly ;). I would've given my eye-teeth to have been near a lake, pond or some trees (there is, however, the flat plains at the bottom of the above picture).

HiPam, I understand yery well what you feel. My home town is on a beautiful river, there are more than 400 ponds and 3 other rivers not far way und so on. But it´s no great landscape. So I must work with the things I have.

Have you everywhen tried it with macros? Makes fun! Excuse my bad English!

Greetings Alfred

Yes, Pam, I agree to what you answered me! Your "castles and mountains" are outstanding. Though I live in the hills or what you would call mountains, ;) I love your Saskatchewan landscapes as well, your photos are beautiful!

Lilypon, on October 27, 2007, said:

Alfred I've taken pictures of my flowers with my old camera on a macro setting but I hadn't thought of testing it on my new camera. :S Thank you so much for the reminder! (last night was our first snow, didn't last, but the hard frost would've looked wonderful with the macro setting).

Your area sounds a lot like mine (we do have rivers flowing through my town too but the countryside it's sure hit and miss ;).

Thank you May and I chuckled in agreement when I read "the hills or what you would call mountains". ;)

(((Marek))) thank you so very much for the wonderful compliment (and I, in turn, thank Mother Nature from the bottom of my heart ;). Prior to posting the above picture I used "I'm feeling lucky" at Picasa to clear the picture to the extent of what we saw with our eyes (my camera tends to have what looks like a dusty film over the image when it's taken at that time of night). The colours and clarity is now pretty close to an accurate portrayal (I just wish I had an object in the above picture to give perspective on the incredible amount of sky that sunset filled....a panoramic shot would really have been the only one to do it justice).

Greetings from Saskatchewan, Canada, Pam

Lilypon, on October 30, 2007, said:

LOL yep that would be us ;) But given time (to study the manual ;), practice, and the right set of circumstances I'm sure we will have one or two that they will wish they had taken. With the above I now think I should have crawled down in the ditch and I'm sure I would've found some plant, to serve as a silhouette, that hadn't been mowed down (a professional would've thought of that). BTW at work my co-workers and I decided I should carry a branch/bush/potted plant in the car just for sunsets like the above ;).

I don't usually leave comments on photos that have lots of them already, but just had to leave one for this amazing sunset! Its magic! And the conversation about how strangely others look at all of us taking photos of plants and the sky and all that wierd stuff is spot on! I still laugh remembering overhearing an incredulous little boy saying to his mom: 'Mom,that lady is taking a picture of the SUN???' when they passed me taking this shot, (well, OK, I think I took about 100...) :-)

Ryan Calhoun, on October 30, 2007, said:

I have a similar story. Once I was taking closeups of plants along a trail in Florida. There was another man walking with his two little girls, going slower than me except I kept stopping. After we passed each other once or twice, I heard one of the girls say "Daddy, why aren't you interesting in different kinds of grass?"

:D

Wow Pam! I came back for another look... 300 views already, I think you are a star! ( so I will give you a yellow one) Let me know when we can start the sk\ab chapter of APA... I'm in, as I can also be found on my belly in a frosty ditch.... with my camera. I might fit in! ;D

Lilypon, on November 4, 2007, said:

Thanks Vicki! :D I just noticed how much it's climbed too (but I imagine many are like me combing the sunset tag and taking a closer look at some).

LOLOL I think that's a wonderful idea and you and I will fit into the "sk\ab chapter of APA" perfectly ;) I do know that I for sure will be crawling in a frosty ditch/ditch puddle/anything to put some plant, that escaped the farmer's swather or the ditch mower into the picture! ;)

Vicki Binder, on November 4, 2007, said:

Just for the record.. I don't think it needs a plant, weed or otherwise. This one stands on its own just right! ;)

Today I found this letter written by a lady in New Brunswick back in 1922. Here's an excerpt:

"Is there another stillmess to compare with a Prairie night? The hoot of an owl seems visible; northern lights seems audible and oh the prairie sunsets...and your diamond-studded sky blankets it all. (Saint John West, N.B).
