En la novela de Romulo Gallegos, "Doña Barbara", Marisela representa la Venezuela, ingenua, esperanzada, enamorado de la vida, que "el empuje civilizador la salvó de la barbarie". En las indómitas tierras apureñas, donde vivió Doña Barbara, se levanta esta estatua dedicada a la Marisela
