"Hagia Sophia" translates into Holy Wisdom, origionally named by it's Christan Builders of the 'Byzantine' capital, Constantinople. The name was changed by the Ottoman, Muslam invaders who in essance destroyed the beautiful interior of the Basilica and MADE it theirs...

I am not sure if the interior was "destroyed", because main decoration of this beautiful building was mosaics on arches, and all mosaics are only bespreaded by lime-cast, so all original mosaics are renewable. Greetings Ivan

Wonderful picture but ... Aya Sofia (Holly Wisdom)is not a camii, is a byzabtine church made in 535 to 555 p.C, by Iustinianus, who said after the total building of the church "Vinci te Salomon", and in 1453 p. C. after the Constantinoupolis fall, Mohamad II the conqueror covered all mosaics and change the operation of thw church to camii. Anyway it;s better to call it "Aya Sofia museum".
