I agree pandimis, maybe the most beautifull and historical fountain of the world, maybe be the richest too, with all those coins there...:)

Last week somebody did put a red substance in the fountain water, an act against the waste of money of the Festa del Cinema of Rome.For two days they did not know if the remaining stains on the marble would go away.Now it seems so.They arrested a person, but had to leave him go.

That's a stupid thing to do. So, if I understand correctly, some person to protest against the "waste" of money in the Festival de Cinema, made de authoritys Spend more moeny to repair what he/she did... That's not a smart thing, and reveals some imaturity and lack of culture and respect.

Anyway if he did it with fenoftalaíne wont be that bad, it will go away with the normal replace of the water and only becames red/carmin in acid ambient.

Alex, Concerning the fenoftalaíne you mentioned, as a chemist I inform you that its color is violet in alkalic environment and colorless in acidic... :)

In clear water (pH 7) that substance is colourless as it's getting violet above the value of pH 8,5

Thanks a lot, but after 23 years of my last chemistry lesson I think I swap the environments, I knew it's not red, it's carmim and that I remember from my chemistry lessons, the almost pink colour, no so dark as Violet, but I think that depends on the PH of the environment.
