New Zealand - Lake Benmore

I believe this is mislabeled - the location looks more like what can be seen from the top of Benmore Dam, overlooking Lake Benmore than Lake Waitaki. Benmore is not far from Waitaki.

Thanks for your correction. But I am really confused about the location. I got many corrections for this photo, some saying it's Benmore Lake, others stating it's Waitaki Lake.

Hi Noud,

I have no doubt that it's Benmore. Your photo was (most likely) taken from the car park above the dam, and looks towards the Whalan Stream on the opposite side of the lake. The dam is just out of shot on the right, and the Sugarloaf hill is out of shot to the left. I was born and raised there, so I'm pretty familiar with the place :-)

By the way, my photo 'Lake Benmore at Dawn' was taken from pretty much the same spot and shows a very similar view to yours.

You're right, I did take it from the car park. It's really funny that my parents did a trip to NZ too, a few years later than me and they took a photo from the exact same position. Your photo is great too, but I'm glad that I had better weather than you ;-).
