Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

According to a report on water supplies made by UNESCO, Croatia has a high 32,818 cubic meters of renewable water supply

per capita per year. It is ranked among the thirty water-richest countries in the world respectively, and behind Iceland and

Norway on third place in Europe.

If the Croatian water wealth is accounted as the sum of the amount of water that falls to the ground and the water that comes

from other countries, Croatia in relation to its surface is the first country in Europe for water supplies and a third in the world.

On je nadkriven s najskromijom dopremom okolnog kamenja.

This is a well of a Dalmatian village type, made in the old days. For the building was used a recess in the stone cliff, as the natural form of the soil. The water tank is made of stone. He is under roof with a minimum delivery of the surrounding rocks. One edge of the wells, can be seen in the picture, was built in the shape of a funnel-shaped wall. Around the stone battlements are natural or artificial holes, in order to influence rainwater. As you can see, the čatrnja has no crown for easier extraction of water with a tin bucket attached to a solid rope. It can be said that the čatrnja is a stone fountain in the pit. Owning a čatrnja, it once meant, have not consumable wealth, but rather the conditions for survival and life..

The origin of the word "čatrnja" is unreliable, but has presence on the ground of today and the historic Croatian provinces, Dalmatia, Lika, Kordun, Banovina, Herzegovina, western and northern Bosnia..

During the summer heat, it is a real pleasure to drink very cold and a soft rainwater. To drink a healthy water from a čatrnja, means to return the body the freshness of nature and enrich the memory of the skilled hands of our ancestors.

Thank you for the information Zlato...clean water is worth more than gold and even more in the future. {L+YS}
