Songkran (New Year) celebration in Chiang Mai

Not selected for Google Earth or Google Maps [?]

Songkran (Thai New Year) is celebrated beginning of April. Officially this holiday is one or two day. It usually stretches to at least one week. Water fights are major part of the celebration. Thai and farangs (foreigners), kids and adults, men and women all take part in general soaking. Older people are usually respected and get just sprinkling of water.

I was never so lucky...;-), but made me feel young!

One of the best places to experience Songkran is in Chiang Mai, where it is celebrated wild and crazy on a grand scale with a flavour uniquely and entirely its own, attracting visitors from far and wide.

In case you are wondering, the couple is from Germany, but even the buddhist Thai are very good with water guns. I think, I was representing Canada well, but not on Peacekeeping mission!

All in good fun! ;-)
