Sweet reward on the Steps of Doi Suthep

These kids pose for photos for coins on the 309 steep steps to Doi Suthep temple. Hope that they do not spend it all on ice cream.

Wat Doi Suthep The wat can be reached by songtaw from Chiang Mai. Visitors can climb 309 steps to reach the pagodas. Entry to the temple costs 30-40 Thai baht for foreigners.

Once inside the temple grounds; visitors must take off their shoes. The challenge is to find them again.

The original copper plated chedi is the most holy area of the temple grounds. Within the large site are pagodas, statues, bells and shrines. Aspects of the Wat draw from both Buddhism and Hinduism. There is a model of the Emerald Buddha and a statue of the Hindu God Ganesh.

Views of Chiang Mai can be seen on the other side of the temple. But on my visit we had a tropical downpour; all you could see about 20 meters in front of your nose!
