Thanks Ian,i'm pleased you think so,i went back to the original and tried again,i think this looks more natural.
yup- definitely better - wresting decision-making back from the camera is usually a good idea - they do an awful lot of things better than I could, but finessing the picture is best left to humans - nice result :)
