I have observed these trains running at about 45 MPH, most notably (and alarmingly) during the evening of 4 July when the grass immediately adjacent to the tracks is being used (in the dark) as a tourist parking area. The pavement is immediately behind the Palace wall and perhaps 2 ft lower; there is a 2-lane road, another pavement, about 35-40 ft of grass lawn, and then the tracks. Nothing keeps little kids from running in front of the train in the dark but luck, their parents and God.
