Thanks joy for the photo and article.
These mountains are generally acknowledged as being among the oldest on the Earth and the information perserved within the geology tells not only the story of their own existence, but says a lot about the development of the entire Earth. Fossilized evidence from almost every geological era, including the Pre-Cambrian period * is found within their formations. Undergoing dramatic topographical changes over millions of years, they were there when the oldest known life forms squirmed the Earth. They watched the dinosaur come and go. They sank below sea level not once, but twice-and emerged triumphantly with the deposited evidence. Already ancient when the Great Rocky Mountains were being formed, the Arbuckles are thought to have been as massive as the Rockies are today, but millions of years have essentially worn them down to the root-exposing for scientists and geologists the secrets within them.
Wow. I didn't realize Oklahoma had anything this beautiful. Nice one JF!
Thanks Margot! I remembered the cut through the mountains on I-35 from our trip to move my daughter to Texas. I did a bit of investigating nearby and found this park. It sure was beautiful early that morning with no one around.
I am so sorry I missed everyone else....thought I had already responded at first.
