John Goodall, on January 26, 2007, said:
Exeter was one of the English towns that suffered from heavy bombing by the Luftwaffe in the so-called "Baedeker" raids initiated by Hitler in the Second World War between the imperialist nations (1939 -45). This is one of the few mediaeval buildings in the town centre that survived the bombing. Exeter is now characterised as the most "cloned" town in Britain owing to the predominance that retail stores belonging to multiple chains occupied in the post-war redevelopment of the city.
