Another great shot Palmina! I have heard that you had some amazing birds downunder...this one is incredible. I actually like the 'wet' effect of the rain. Maybe he was enjoying the water since you had gone without for a while! Bruce

Hi Bruce Thanks for the visit and the comment. We do have some lovely birds down here. I'm hoping to get a shot or two of the Lyrebird in the next few weeks when we are showing visitors around the hills. The Lyrebird is a nice looking bird with a spectacular tail, but his real claim to fame is his mimicking ability. If you get a chance to watch David Attenborough's Life of Birds, watch out for the Lyrebird, he imitates everything from chain saws to a camera motor. It really is quite incredible to see. I saw I hoping to get a shot but he is notoriously shy and as the visit will be whirlwind I might not have to time to sit and sit and sit!

I have heard of the Lyrebird and seen a program about them. Their mimicking ability certainly is amazing. Hope you get to see one with your visitors! Enjoy the spring! It is starting to get cold here. the higher eleveations may get some wet snow today! Bruce
Palmina Moore, on November 9, 2007, said:
Thanks Bruce. You are very lucky to have the posibility of snow today! It has been very hot here - already had days of 28oC. I tink Summer will be a scotcher! I am looking forward to the trips into the hills as it's cooler, as we reach the edge of the Dandenongs, we roll down the windows in the car to take full advantage of the amazing smells that comes with the leaf litter and tree ferns and the sounds of the Crimson Rosella's, Bell birds and the Cockatoo's. I am sadly going to miss feeding the Rosella's ( I think I told you once before, we aren't allowed to anymore). I wont miss their smell however. With my Italian "nose" I smell the chemicals they give off and it can sometimes be stiffling. I can also smell the trails that Ant's leave too. (now there's some info that can go into the ?????? file) :):):)
Regards, Palmina

Good Gracious! How brilliant! I've never seen a bird as beautiful as this! The colors are amazing! It's a wonderful shot!

Poor little mite! This was the same day as the Oliver photo with him in the flooded paddock. The birds still had to come down for their feed though. The stomach doesn't care if they are soaking wet. We do feel blessed to have them come to feed everyday.

Palmina Moore, on June 18, said:
These are Rainbow Lorikeets. We have them come down for food each day. This fella still came down when it was pouring with rain. I guess his belly was more important than his feathers that day.
