Sunset clouds over a mesa south of Fontenelle Creek

Selected for Google Maps and Google Earth

This was one of the strangest sunsets and nights I have seen. The photo was taken at sunset, but I am facing the east, not the west. At dark the clouds filled with an incredible amount of cloud to cloud lightning -- thousands of strokes, but I did not hear any thunder even though this rainless "storm" lasted all night. It just circled and circled around me. By morning, one tiny cloud was left, trailing a bit of virga.

Bruce MacIver and Keith Miller,

Thanks!! It has been a great summer for photography in Eastern Idaho, Western Wyoming, IMO. Right now I'm not sure if Google Earth is going to accept it. Maybe they can't see that it is a mesa illuminated by the orange light.

I see that upon reevaluating this photo, Google Earth accepted it. I'm pleased.
