Norm - this is not as dangerous as it looks as the water does not surge back off the rocks - however the very weight of the water can floor you and I have seen people cut very nasty on the lava rocks when that broken spray has them like a fire hose.
Six people have drowned here in the last couple of decades, but they climbed down to sea level.

I have been passing through Kiama every year or so for the past 20 years and I have never seen the blowhole anywhere near as big as that. That would have been a great day to be there. Fantastic photo.
