This quarry is on the hilltop overlooking Clarkes Mill at Maheno and as far as as I can judge is very likely to have been the source of the stone used to build the mill. It is not bedded horizontally but it has been quarried along the bedding lines (layers)
It is an old quarry - evidenced by the erosion deposited material around the quarry faces and it looks like it was worked just the once as all the abandoned faces all look the same as far as weathering goes. It was also sawn by hand - factors that might confirm its genesis as the mill building stone source. getting material down off the hill to the building at the mill site could have been easily effected along an old track - now bulldozed to enhance farm access, that I walked along to get these pictures.
