On the Oakes' property, this charming barn with its dovecote has a limited life unless it is stabilised and restored.

The rusty coloured basalt stone is soft enough for general craftsmen to work and the Oamaru limestone corner quoin blocks too were easy to make.

Some Bedding Hill stone has been used in St Andrew's Church at Maheno. see http://www.nzhistory.net.nz/media/photo/maheno-war-memorial-church
