Thanks laughingmackerel. I've been meaning to run off some prints of this - you've just reminded me. Greetings from New Zealand.

Just found this in Laughingmackerel's favourites and I'm glad I did. Spectacular capture. Just superb clouds. Well done.

And these clouds were real? :O

clickNZ on March 27, 2009

Yes, the clouds/scene is real - not altered. In post processing for black and white conversion a "yellow filter" effect applied - much the same result as putting a yellow filter in front of the lens when shooting monochrome film. Also IIRC some darkening of foreground and sky with layers/gradient blend. Of course not exactly as the camera captures, but processed to appear more like what my eye sees. The heavy higher clouds are from our "Nor'Wester" (foehn effect from large mountains), the smaller low cloud coming from breaking cloud from the east - sea breeze - diurnal winds sucked under and against the high altitude Nor'West flow. Not a windy day on the ground, but almost guaranteed to be a very bumpy ride over the mountains - even in a big jet.

Awesome shot ! I really like it, especially the texture of the clouds, they have such a density ! Your gallery is a treasure for my eyes ! Greetings from France, Michael
