Labarna conquistó prácticamente toda la Anatolia central y extendió sus dominios al mar Mediterráneo. Sus sucesores aumentaron las conquistas hititas hacia el norte de Siria. Mursil I (que reinó hacia 1620-1590 a.C.) conquistó lo que es actualmente Alepo, en Siria, y arrasó Babilonia hacia el 1595 a.C. Al asesinato de Mursil siguió un periodo de luchas internas y debilidad externa que finalizó durante el reinado del rey Telibinu (que reinó hacia 1525-1500 a.C.). Para asegurar la estabilidad del reino, promulgó una estricta ley de sucesión y adoptó medidas contundentes para suprimir la violencia. De los sucesores de Telibinu únicamente se conocen sus nombres.
