Greetings Steve ;) Not so many years ago, this place would have looked completely different..Just south of this location, on the other river bank, was sited the huge engineering concern of Head-Wrightsons, once a world class company manufacturing chemical plant such as converters, oil crackers and heat exchangers on a massive scale. All that is left are a few scars in the landscape on what was once regarded as the most poisonous land in the country! Now, there are wide open spaces, beautifully landscaped, there are many new office type buildings, a university a stylish new bridge riverside walks and a clean, pollution free river Tees, formerly a free flowing salmon river..Now the water is clean, the salmon are returning to spawn in huge numbers and the North sea is much safer for bathing. Unfortunately, the death of out traditional engineering industries has lead to pockets of unemployment where some families have never worked for nearly thirty years..A lot of good men and women lost their jobs way back and a lack of investment in alternative industries caused a huge problem..Now we are in a depression and those office type buildings (call centres) are laying off staff, mainly women..There's not a lot of work for men..unless they are interested in fast food outlets, pubs, DIY hyper markets and other retail outlets. Industry as I knew it is dead!

All the best Steve, it was great to hear from you again!
