Hi Greg, I'm compiling a series of free, online geological tours of North and South Islands. I don't have an image as close up as yours of the loess and Timaru Basalt at this locality. Your image is clear and shows the character of the loess, with the basalt beneath. Would I be able to use your image in my online guide, with credit to you?

You can check out the web site at www.ozgeotours.110mb.com

We are hoping to start adding the NZ tours next month. We spent 3 weeks covering the proposed route late last year.

Cheers, Bob

Of Course you can Geobob. I am only too happy to share thes ein the community - otherwise they wouldn't be here. As a fellow rock hound (although I have concerned myself more with the ephemeral things above the degraded basement...) I welcome you to use those of my photos which you like from this site, with due reference of course. Use the 'geology' tag in the list to give you the available photos.

BTW - if you want some from around elsewhere (where I have also sppent time striking the sediment amopng other things) I am happy to make basic suggestions too (1st year Bathurst, hunter Valley and Kiama come to mind, as do 2nd year Tamworth and Yass - although I don't have pictures for the latter).

We can talk more soon - look me up under the surname Steenbeeke in the local white pages if needed.

Cheers, Greg

Thanks very much, Greg. I guessed that you are Greg Steenbeeke. I have noted many of your photos on Google Earth in places of mutual interest. I was aware that you have participated in one of Paul Ashley's geo tours of NZ, so it all added up. Paul is encouraging us to convert his long running tours into a web-based downloadable tour. As you would imagine, when we toured NZ last year some days were very wet and unsuitable for useful photography. Consequently, it's great to have an alternative source of good photos from some of the localities we are writing up.

I am based at UNE in DPI Minerals in the north wing of Earth Sciences building.

Cheerio,

Bob Brown
