Yes - those are longhorns! They are much more common out west than they are in Illinois... but I guess this is a special place because the available pastures are so very large at Midewin.

Oh good I thought they might be, we used to have short horns in Dorset in a few herds back in the fifties, but mostly Friesians and Channel Island for the high cream content. and one or two herds of Red Poles. Most dairy farms were around 100 acres back then and 70 to 100 head in milk perhaps
