This is close to the spot where the famous 'SS Great Britain' came ashore on its maiden trip to America. They were going so fast they didn't know where they were, mistook our lighthouse for one on the the Isle of Man and sailed straight on into Ireland!! Bit careless Eh :-). I. K. Brunel came over to supervise the refloat and she lay here for a winter before he got her off.
