Mellum (apple tree)

This picture shows one of a couple of apple trees on Mellum island. Although it's stature looks more like a bush than a tree, it's really fertile. The picture was taken in October 2007 in close vicinity to the ranger station. The rangers guess that the apple trees were not a remnant of WWII, but the result of a scrapped apple of one of the visitors of Mellum. It's remarkable that an apple tree can prosper in that salty environment.
