This picture (looking west) shows the ranger station of Mellum. Build in 1950 on the basement of a former air defence outpost of the second World War, the little building provides accommodation for up to 5 rangers, which lives here between March und October. On the left you see the biggest tree (approx. 12 m) and the former fire service pond, which now have become a biotop.

yes, it's my own work. I was on the island of Mellum in October 2007. Really nice place at this time, but a big fire in summer 2009 have destroyxed much of the nature & some infrastructure. We wait for detailled informations of the Mellum-Rat, who is, if you like so, the "owner" of the bird island.
