I was taught to fire a rifle in this Hall as an Army cadet in the late 1940`s. The 25 yard range is attached to the left side of the building, and the rifles we used were old W.W.1 Lee Enfields tube down to fire .22 bullets rather than the larger .303 standard bullet that the rifle was designed to use. Not only did it cut the cost, but it reduced the size of the holes shot through the iron roof. This experience was very helpful to me in my New Zealand deer hunting trips, as I could guarantee that any of my shots were near misses, and my companions were responsible for the nasty wounds inflicted on these poor animals, though I once shot the head off a sea gull when I declared it my target being sure that I would miss,
