Giacomo Puccini was born in Lucca, Italy in 1858 and died in Belgium in 1924. He was a composer of opera, the most important representative of Italian verisme. He came from a family of musicians. He studied composition and organ, first to his birthplace, Florence and then Milan.

In 1893, he had his first success with the opera "Tosca". As pophlar as Verdi with "La Boheme", "Mantama Butterfly", "Manon Lescaut" and "Turandot", which was left unfinished and completed by Franco Alfano. Two years after his death, the opera premiered at La Scala in Milan, conducted by his friend Arturo Toscanini. Toscanini decided to stop the show at the point where he had worked by Puccini. At that very moment, stopped work, he turned to the public and said "Here ends the work as the composer died. Unfortunately, death exceeds the art." Puccini also wrote a function, chamber music, etc.

His works are characterized by excellent instrumentation, immediate, passion and lyricism pervades these dramatic atmosphere. It is one of the most popular in the opera.

PS: In September 13th of 2011, his birthhouse was inaugurated as a museum dedicated to him, "Il maestro retorna a casa". This photo is dedicated from me to the great musician.

Hi, Christos. Seeing this picture reminded me of a time when a radio host announced that his guest would sing an aria from Tosca by Verdi. The following week he commented about his mistake. I happened to have a recording of his comment so I put some slides with it and uploaded it to Youtube. It is interesting and a bit comical. you can hear it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHiC1L3VB4Y&feature=youtu.be
