Hi I cycled through Riano in 1986 and under under the dam
I recently re visited Riano which was an amazing experience, very sad, but now the area benefits from green hydro electricity but at the cost of a community and a beutiful valley
Does anyone have any info on this ??

I have loaded a picture of the dam before it flooded, amazing!
I was here with my wife the day after the day the houses of the last people who didn't want to leave, were destroyed. People slept outside, fires were burning to keep them warm. Fires were also burning of remains of the houses. It was a sad experience to visit the abandonated church. We made a camp with our tent at 100 meters of the church on a riverside. I have made a lot of diapositives of Riano that day.
I remember a criticism of a inhabitant who said that it was a sad idea that a plan from the time of Franco, was brought to reality by a socialist government. People were offered to leave Riano and go to a flatappartment somewhere. I don't know how things eventually are solved.I should like to know more about the history of this tragedy.
Although I can understand that water is a vital good for Spain, so maybe eventually there are good reasons for this thing.
I put digital copies of the diapositives I made that special day after the destruction of Riano and pedrosa del rey. Later on I try to offer them with a better quality.
Una foto realmente célebre y casi mítica, hay otra por ahí del viejo Riaño en verano, preciosa. El pueblo más bonito de España entonces. Supongo que esta foto no es tuya realmente, pero bien por subirla.
