An excellent image with lots of detail. There can't have been much wind that day but you can see the Union flag on the Palace, which means the Queen is in residence. When the Queen isn't there the flag isn't either. Best wishes, purdey

Actually, that's not correct. Wikipedia says "...the Union Flag flies from the Palace when the Queen is not in residence...". The Royal Standard is the only indicator of whether the monarch is in residence. Sorry to be a pedant, it's a great photo, whoever was at home that day.
You're right and I'm wrong susan. Thanks for correcting me. Something I just found on the official Monarchy website is that: "The Royal Standard is never flown at half-mast, as the Sovereign never dies (the new monarch immediately succeeds his or her predecessor)."
