The quarries are at Moor End and nearer Mount Tabor village than Ovenden. The houses which were built for the quarry owner, Wilson Haigh, are in the village at 513 & 515 Moor End Road, and are known as Springfield. (I was born at one of two properties called Springfield Cottages, number 519, their converted outbuildings.)

The crane has been removed :-( I drove past the other day and it looks like the site was being prepared for something

Interesting. I wonder what. Profit for some developer maybe. Or more stone quarrying? (I notice the village name is misspelt twice: once as Mount Tabot? Again as Mount Tabour.) Strictly speaking the quarries are at Gibb Lane, Mount Tabor. ie. neither Moor End or Ovenden.

When i was younger i used to play by the quarry (disused at the time) my mate had his dog with him, and the dog loved fetching stones thrown ahead to return to the thrower. i thrown a rock and it went down the quarry, so did the dog. luckily the hound returned with the rock after a minute of all of us panicking.
