Some time ago I came from Holland to Budapest and saw this TURUL high on a hilltop along the highway, then I did not know yet what the importance was of this bird but soon I learned that the turul bird played an importand role in the Magyar history.And in Budapest I could make a picture of this bird standing at the end of a gate on the BUDA HILL near the royal palace.On this foto one can see how big this statue is compared to the people below.

This is the biggest bird statue in Europe. The width of the wings is near 15 meters. Both statue was made by Donáth Gyula, this one in 1896 (the millennium of Hungary) and the other in Buda was made in 1903.
