Built on a basalt outcrop overlooking the North Sea, Bamburgh Castle has a Norman core, with the keep probably added by Henry II in the twelfth century.

Many thanks Nino,行者无路 and Georgi for your kind comments. Bamburgh Castle has a rich history, with a fortification on this rocky knoll by the sea since before the time of King Alfred of Wessex more than a thousand years ago. The castle is currently privately owned and is open to the public as a tourist attraction.
