Yeah, I know, but that doesn't comfort me. This view looks WSW. Fifty or sixty years ago, when I was a kid, on most days you could see all the way to the Pacific Coast Range, about 150 miles west of this spot. Nowadays, such a view may happen one or two days in a year. Sad.
Thanks for visiting.

I know what you mean - something must be change
ChipStephan, on November 18, said:
Thanks, Kojak. Perhaps with a new administration the US will sign on to Kyoto and begin doing some serious carbon emission reduction. Meanwhile, I'll do my part - I've switched from incandescent lights to compact flourescents, cut my driving by about half, and recycle just about everything that can be recycled.

!*!the star for this foto is more for the so important subject you glanced in your comments, Chip We in Europe do very great exertions to minimise exhaustion and other polluting emissions, but this is only then worth the efforts, when the very big countries join ! It is to hope, the Californians will achieve a change!
ChipStephan, on November 20, said:
Thanks, guiseppe. The government of California, has sued the federal government to allow California to continue requiring more strict vehicle pollution controls than the federal government itself. I hope the suit is successful.

Yeah, that's the way comments work. Any time you comment on a picture, you get all subsequent comments on that pic from everyone. And anyone who has commented on one of your pics will see all subsequent comments on that pic. The team calls the comments "conversations", and that's how they work. Too bad. It would be nice if the team used PHPbb's full facilities for the forum, allowing profiles, private e-mails and private messaging, but I guess there are just too many of us for it to work well.

Thanks, Marcelo and Irina. Happy new year to you, too.

Chip, I take it that you drove your SMOKE MAKER up to this point to take this pic. It actually appears to be a pretty nice day in the valley. You can see the Coastal Range in the background (at left). It is well documented that Native Americans lived with the same haze during their time. To all you "Do-Gooders" that commented here, go ahead and take the lead and stop driving your cars. As for me, I will enjoy the freedom of my SUV as I cart my kids up to the park.
ChipStephan, on February 22, said:
Yes, I did drive up to the park for that shot. What you see in the background isn't the Coast Range, it's more of the Sierras, and it wasn't a good air day in the Valley that day.
I'm conscious of my contribution to the lousy air, and I try to minimize it. I'm not a "do-gooder", whatever that is, I'm just an ordinary person. I've been visiting Sequoia and Kings Canyon for sixty years, and I'm not likely to stop. But that doesn't mean I'm happy about the air quality. When I was a kid, you actually could see the the Coast Range from Moro Rock. Some days, you could see it from Fresno. Days like that are extremely rare now.

Great pic Chip. That is why we use HDR. Unfortunately is a bad man made effect...
