Lots of "ginnels" (alleyways) thread their way through the maze of houses that cling to the valley side in this antiquated hotch-potch of dwellings that make up the old town. It is said that during the reign of Henry 8th, the young men of the town knew these escape routes and could blindly run through them in the black pitch of night to escape the King Henry's Press-Gangs
