I understand that this was originally a village lock-up.
I would like to see this lovely photograph on my 'Village lock-ups' Group.
This photograph is now on the 'Village lock-up Group' album, thanks to Rod.
Known as The Cage, it was originally Walton Market Cross and dates to the 1630's and was first used as a lock-up in about 1795. It was moved in 1852 to the corner of Maidstone Road but in 1910 it was purchased by a Chiswick business man who restored it and used it as a recreational shelter for his employees. In 1957 it was returned to Walton and restored by the Council close to its original position for use as a bus shelter.
