Ahhh some snowbirds on their trip down here to Mexico. They should arrive in about two Month provided they survive the trip. Visited last year one of their migrating locations here in Mexico and it is a spectacle to hear and see (hundreds of thousands Monarch wings flapping does create an interesting sound)
Well done a shot to be proud of and yes I have been following the comments in the Critique Forum :) YSL
Thank you very much, Nick! I'm wondering if turning the camera sideways a little wouldn't have given the shooter more wiggle room and/or better composition - there's no horizon in this shot, and the stalk can in theory be leaning in any direction.
Panamon-Creel, thank you for your visit! It was nothing like that - there were lots of them around, but far short of carpeting the earth or plants. Maybe the spot I was out in is a "feeder" gathering place, not a major one... Or maybe I was out too early or too late and only caught the tail of the crowd... or the vanguard.
At your location there won't be so many gathered together however down here in Mexico all the migrating eastern Monarchs that survive the trip will be grouped together in five small locations.
Take a trip down here to Mexico in December/January to see/hear the spectacle ;)
