Closeup of Mt. Baker

Mt Baker is ~56miles/90km to the SE of Delta, BC from where photo "close up" was taken. One big mountain + one long lens + altitude? Great "close up" Tim.

Very interesting to know Bob. When I initially tried to find out which mountain it was I wound up looking at other Panoramio pictures and found only 1 shot indicating that it was Baker. I think if that is really the distance it may be wrong. I guessed that it was about 30 miles away but judging mountains from a distance is something I am not very practiced at. Perhaps you found something different? Tim

I visited Victoria a few years back. I must say Victoria is one beautiful city - the gardens and architecture are magnificent. You can see Mt. Baker from Victoria just a few feet above sea level.

I wondered how far you were from Mt. Baker. Google Earth's Ruler measured 56 miles (BTW the crow flies) between Delta and Mt. Baker. I drove from Bellingham, WA to Mt. Baker. The distance from Bellingham looked like a day's hike. Google Earth's Ruler measures 30 miles. The drive took over an hour - kicking out sight seeing stops.

Mt. Baker's very high prominence value of ~8,500 feet is why both you and me badly misjudged the distance.

Well Bob we are gonna have to name this mountain something so I need some help here... Tim

Last night was -11˚ C. Today 0˚. Easy conversion. Why not go metric? We need two of every thing these days. Today I see -6˚ C for Winnipeg. Back to normal, eh?

I have noted that when we swap polar air masses, the shortest path to warmer is north.

Just to rub it in it's forecast for a balmy plus 6 on Thursday or Friday, just can't remember which day. No chance of me wishing for colder weather but I'm shocked that you could be colder than way up here! Maybe someday we'll be the new rainforest.... Tim
