A brilliant piece in terms of architecture and history Mick. I wasn't familiar with the Martello towers, but they're really impressive! Best regards, Dirk Jan

It is so wide that looks short, but thanks to the door you can have a mental scale.

These Martello towers are so interesting Mick, and seem to be dotted around the world, with a large proportion in Ireland and the south coast of England. I have only ever seen one other, so it's great to see your photo :))

I see that it has no defences against the graffiti artists though. Maybe they should place a cannon on the top again!

Cheers, Amelia

Hi sonjabgd, Bernardo and Amelia

Thanks so much for visiting and commenting it is much appreciated, apologies for the delay in replying. Amelia I reckon if they put a cannon on top of it the graffiti artists would see it as a challenge to paint it as well.

Cheers Mick

That's cool, bit of a stretch calling it a tower though isn't it? Guess it just sounded better than a 'Martello short stubby fortification'.

Hi Guy,

Thanks for stopping by, I take your point about calling it a tower, in fact I'll be heading down to the pub shortly and I will submit you suggestion to the committee in charge of naming these things. I'm sure after a few pints it will be unanimously accepted :))))

Hope you enjoy the weekend Mick
