You should have seen this pond with its little skimpy wood foot bridge crossing over the center of the pond in the mid 1940's. I walked over it as a kid and looked down into the water to see big bubbles building on the bottom surface which had a light sandy appearance & texture to it from wind blown dust which settled on the bottom. Pond was surrounded by an old weak wood rail and a little wire screening stapled to it only 5 or 6 feet from the edges. Museum building was a small wretched old wood bldg. Many concrete mammals hidden among 3-4 ft. tall dry grass & weeds over on the right hand side with long narrow dirt trails winding through which would open up into small clearings with a snarling Sabre-tooth for example. Pond was split into two ponds. The bigger pond had the bridge over it. I saw a squirrel weakly struggling to get out of it at the edge. He would not make it.... L.Stange
