this is not the old bridge, but a temporary bridge made from gabion baskets (the bamboo walkway was washed away during 2007 monsoon). the old bridge was a suspension bridge, but had to be removed to enable the construction of the new traditional cantilever bridge as it is located at the same abutment points.
The suspension bridge was taken down because there was concern about it's load bearing capacity after all this time.
