I am a resident of Clifton. The town was incorporated in 1903 and many of the houses were built between 1850 and 1900. William Beckwith owned the land in the 1800s and upon his death gave the land to his slaves that he freed at the same time. One of the oldest black churches still stands in town as a testament to their freedom.
You can find other photographs and information on the town at: http://www.cliftonva.us/OurTown/tabid/66/Default.aspx
