Now that's Wonderful, the placement of the Christmas wreath is a nice touch and a great reminder of the yuletide season
I heard a rumor that the professionally offended ninnies want this statue removed. I say leave it there!
Hi Xpeditor, thanks for your comments on both photos. Over 20 years ago a truck clipped and damaged this statue. I heard then that there were calls to move it but that Virginia State law requires that it stay where it is.
Perusing around and found this photo. I used to be the person that decorated the statue duing the year and at Christmas. The United Daughters of the Confederacy own the statue. I am a native Alexandrian. I moved to Florida in 2011 and I do not believe that anyone has taken up the charge of decorating Appomattox. Pretty sad.
I'll keep an eye out and see if anyone puts up decorations this year. At least I can confirm that someone is taking care of the statue. By total coincidence, just this morning I was reading an old Gazette from October and saw this article about work by the United Daughters of the Confederacy: http://www.connectionnewspapers.com/news/2012/oct/11/appomattox-gets-makeover/. Did you decorate it for them? Maybe they found someone to take your place. Or maybe you need to come visit.
