An interesting a beautiful structure. The Wikipedia page was interesting. It seemed to use the word folly with a slightly different connotation than I'm used to ... as if it was an intentional thing, rather than something that just turned out to be foolish. It sounds as if the purpose for this one was rather noble. Like it!

It great, as always, to have you visit and many thanks for your kind comments.

Bryan The upper class of the time in the area did I suppose have some sympathy for the poor and so contrived these mad schemes to give them work. However there were other more constructive projects that were badly needed at the time like proper housing, etc. which might have proved more beneficial.
