Castle was damaged by Russian invaders in 1701, and after this year it was not inhabitated more.

River Daugava was / is very important transporting way - ancient Amber way between Greks and Vikings; also "the second border" in Latvia.

In my last page (and also previous pages) you can find ruins of different castles, not only this one. They were located accost the river on every 20km

Previously castle was located on a hill, appr. 40m high, but apr 50 years ago Hydro plant was built here and now it is located 1m below water level.
