Handheld, 15 photos, 3319 x 1309 px, ~180 x 100 degrees. Hugin gave the angles as 194 x 114 degrees, but I did a little trimming. Saturday (2011-10-15) the protest was about 3000 people, but at the point that I took this the next day (2011-10-16, 13:41-43) I would say we are closer to 300 people. In back you can see the tents which they were at one point ordered to take down. The tents stayed.

Different people seem to be protesting different things. The rich not paying their fair share. The war. Corporations being given rights at the expense of people. The Keystone XL Pipeline that will carry tar sands oil. Regarding the "rights" of corporations, the Supreme Court decided in January of 2010 that corporations as artificial persons constitute a disadvantaged class, and that their financial contributions to political campaigns and causes constitute a form of speech, protected by the principle of freedom of speech, and thus should face few restrictions.

Regarding the pipeline, gallon per gallon, tar sands oil produce three times as much carbon dioxide as regular oil, and the highly toxic tailing lakes created by the production of tar sands oil are so large they can be seen from space. The pipeline was recently green-lighted by the state department. TransCanada screened applicants for the environmental study and the state department finally hired Cardno Entrix to perform it. Cardno Entrix describes TransCanada as a major client in its marketing materials.

Update:

.

"The 150 Occupy Seattle tents in Westlake Park were taken down by 7:30 Monday morning as Seattle police and Seattle parks employees moved in to clear what the city has long said was illegal camping on city property....

.

"No arrests were made overnight Saturday, but protesters said that from about 2 a.m. onward, officers circled the encampment, awakening them in their tents. A police officer who was not authorized to speak said their job was to make sure the protesters didn't sleep."
