A truly sad site.
Very powerful image, Bob. I think of them as the tombstones of the industrial age.
Hi You have Hit the nail on the head.
But who and why remained the chimney?
The tall chimneys cost a lot of money to knock down, so the developers will try to incorporate them into the new buildings, to save money and also give the impression the are interested in preserving part of our industrial past.
Hi Bobsky!It is Solution!:)
Reading above, it would be nice to see them incorporated into new buildings. I like these old industrial chimneys. They were going to demolish an old glove factory in Yeovil recently, but after a huge outcry, including help from Kevin McCloud from Grand Designs, it was saved and incorporated in the new developement.
Like it. Cheers, Rosa.
Like you I like the old Victorian chimneys now that they are not bellowing out black sooty smoke.
The Chimneys have been landmarks for many years, some in my area are being used as cell phone masts, I do have mixed feelings about that. Thanks for your visit.
