This photo shows the wooden staved penstock for the new powerhouse, being laid down and across Eden Street and up Hospital Hill to Cross Street - a distance of some 700 metres. The photograph is taken looking in the direction of flow in the penstock and the town water supply in one of the the two parallel cast iron pipes which were laid in 1880) flows right to left.
