I am not a historian, but the inscription on the column reads: "Within these grounds stood the Carthusian Monastry founded by King James I of Scotland in 1429. It was the only house belonging to this order in Scotland. In the precincts were buried the Royal Founder, his Queen, Joan Beaufort, and Margaret Tudor, Queen of King James IV."
