Situated in the Cape Vidal Forestry Reserve several kilometres north of the Umfolosi River on the Natal north coast is the unique Cape St Vidal lighthouse. What makes this lighthouse so unique to any other in Southern Africa is its distinctive and magnificent yellow-orange colour. The reason for this is to guarantee that the tower is highly visible against the dark green background of the forestry reserve.

Hello, this is Russ Rowlett, webmaster of the Lighthouse Directory, hosted at the University of North Carolina, USA. I'm hoping you'll allow me to use this outstanding photo on my page for Eastern South Africa. The Directory is an educational project, entirely noncommercial. I've included a caption recognizing your copyright and linking to this page. Please take a look (it's near bottom of the page), and let me know if you think this is not a fair use.
