You are quite wrong, Trikermike. I was born and brought up in the Scottish Borders, and I know this place well. Why don't you look at a good map?
Prior to Sir Walter Scott's career as a novelist, both of these lochs in Selkirkshire were known as "Lochs of the Lowes"; but he popularised the name "St. Mary's Loch" for the upper & larger one, while the lower, smaller loch retained the name "Loch of the Lowes". If there is a "Loch of the Lowes" in Perthshire, that doesn't mean that there can't be two lochs in Scotland with the same name.
